Special geographic areas & non-standard classes
Philippine special geographic areas (BARMM), Manila sub-municipalities, and other non-standard classes as per-class GeoJSON extracts, enriched with PSGC codes.
This page documents the non-standard administrative classes shipped in the curated hierarchical output (2023-10-24/hierarchical_t0p005/). Beyond the standard per-class files (barangays, municipalities, cities, provinces, regions), the bundle also contains the files below.
Special Geographic Areas
Special Geographic Areas (SGAs) are nine units created under BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) legislation (the 2023 SGA Act) from barangays in North Cotabato that voted to join the BARMM. They sit outside the standard region → province → municipality → barangay hierarchy — they have no province or municipality parent — so they get their own class. Their PSGC codes share the 19999... prefix.

unresolved.geojson |
6 | features that could not be matched to any PSGC entity (see coverage) |
submunicipalities.geojson |
0 | Manila’s 14 sub-municipalities — empty, because NAMRIA publishes no sub-municipality polygon layer (they exist only as barangay parents) |
